When war breaks out, the provision of education is often affected in the most devastating way. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) estimates that in Gaza alone, over 625,000 children have been deprived of education. However, the effects of war can be felt much further afield as well. In Egypt, there are approximately 6000 Palestinian students studying at Egyptian universities, 4000 hailing from Gaza. On a recent visit, Goodwill Caravan met with medical students, who have dreams of qualifying as doctors, and going back to their homeland to practice medicine. Many of these students have found that since the October 2023 attacks, their sources of income have fallen or entirely disappeared, and they have been expelled from university due to not having sufficient funds.
We are doing a heartfelt appeal for donations to allow these 25 students to continue their studies, and fulfill their dreams of becoming doctors and practicing in their home country. Many of these students have lost family members and suffered unimaginable trauma. Let us help them to regain hope.
