Legal aid support

Goodwill Caravan offer humanitarian legal aid to vulnerable refugees and displaced populations. We empower and give access to basic rights for refugees to rebuild their lives and the lives of their families

Detention release cases

At present, there are over 120,000 refugees in Greece, who have escaped disaster, only to find themselves either imprisoned or held in detention centers. One-third of these are children, including unaccompanied children being detained in adult prisons. Without assistance from organisations like Goodwill Caravan, these families and minors will remain indefinitely in this frightening and dangerous environment.

This situation exists because all refugees require a known address, which many of them don’t have, and imprisoning them or placing them in detention centers is currently the method used in order to give them an address. These families are imprisoned for no other reason than arriving on the borders of Greece and asking for asylum with nowhere to live or without the financial means to provide shelter for themselves. Our legal team visits prisons and detention centers monthly, as well as responding to SOS calls from mothers that have lost their children.

Having spent a lot of time petitioning and demonstrating our professionalism; Goodwill Caravan now has full authorization from the Greek authorities to identify and release vulnerable refugees that have been imprisoned and accommodate them in the GWC shelters.

Family reunification

Our legal teams in UK and Europe work closely together to reunify families that have been separated on their difficult journey. Following the Dubs Amendment, the Goodwill Caravan lawyers have worked tirelessly to support many families and unaccompanied minors reunite with their families.

The Goodwill Caravan legal team focuses particularly on reunification cases of unaccompanied children. Through intensive legal work and DNA tests, we locate the last surviving relatives and take care of them until our lawyers are able to unite them safely.

Asylum case support

Legal services are often overlooked when it comes to providing humanitarian support. We take on the cases of the most vulnerable refugees and support them with family reunification, asylum applications and release from detention centres.

Our dedicated lawyers in Athens and Lesvos work tirelessly to provide much needed legal support for displaced populations. We ensure they have access to their basic rights as refugees and help them to rebuild their lives and the lives of their families.

Through our lawyers and translators, we ensure that refugees know their rights and are able to navigate through the complex and ever changing asylum process. This is the most crucial step on their journey to a better life.

COVID-19 update

Our lawyers are constantly having to adapt their working practices to ensure they are operating a COVID safe working environment and also to keep up with the continual changes in law that are taking place in Greece, and having a big impact on refugees.
